Mount Kilimanjaro, known as the “Crown of Tanzania” and the “Roof of Africa,” is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest free-standing peak in the world. Its summit stands at an elevation of 5,875 meters above sea level. Kilimanjaro is unique due to its proximity to the equator, just 330 kilometers away.
The mountain comprises three volcanic summits: Shira, which reaches 3,962 meters; Mawenzi, at 5,149 meters; and Kibo, the youngest summit, at 5,895 meters. While Shira is extinct, Kibo is considered a dormant volcano that could become active.
Compared to other peaks in the region, such as Mount Meru, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is relatively more straightforward regarding difficulty and physical demands.
